I noticed that recent firmware, Android app, and Waylens Studio changelogs referenced support for a new Split Lap Timer mode. The icon for that mode suggests that it should function as an open-segment lap timer, so I thought I’d give it a shot at an autocross event yesterday.
I tapped on the Split Lap Timer option on the camera and agreed to the disclaimer while sitting in grid, and then pressed the remote to register the start point once I reached the staging line. The display changed to a stopwatch-style “0:00.00”, which suggested to me that everything was set up to start the timed run once I started moving.
I accelerated off the line and out of the corner of my eye did see that the timer started to run automatically. I tapped the remote button again once I crossed the finish line to stop the timer, and the camera displayed a “Finished” message with a static indication of the total elapsed time. Nice!
… except that when I attempted to review the lap in either the Android App or Waylens Studio the “lap” was only 9 seconds long, and only included footage of me sitting at the staging line waiting for the signal to go. Once I started to move, the lap stopped.
Did I do something wrong, have incorrect expectations for this feature, or is it just plain broken?
